Iran-Spain

Islamic Republic of Iran and Spain have agreed on expansion of academic and research cooperation, especially in the fields of international relations and political issues.

The agreement was reached in the meeting between Iran’s Ambassador to Spain Seyed Davoud Salehi and the Chairman of Spain’s Royal Research Institute (Alcano) Gustav Suarez Perteyara in Madrid.

Interaction of research centers and increasing the knowledge about each other’s political, social and economic structure can solve current problems more easily, faster and more logically, Salehi added.

In this concern, the ambassador hailed existing "good cooperation" between Alcano Institute and Iran’s Foreign Ministry Bureau on International and Political Studies and called for more participation of both sides in the research projects.

Suarez, for his part, said the role and stance of Iran in the Middle East region and in Spain’s foreign policy necessitates expansion of academic cooperation between the two sides.

Alcano Institute started its work in the year 2001 and Spain’s crown prince assumes the honorary chairmanship of the institute.

IRAN’s non-oil exports to Iraq hit $900m | # | P&E — MaT @ 9:07 pm

Iran’s non-oil products exported to Iraq during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March-October 2006) reached dlrs 900 million, the Managing Director of Export Affairs Department in Mines and Industries Ministry, Hossein Esfandiari, said here on Friday.

Speaking to IRNA, he added that the figure for the non-oil exports to Iraq stood at dlrs 1.2 billion last year.

Regretting on missing some of the regional markets by Iranian exporters, he called for making plans based on consistent export, while blaming the exporters for lack of such plans as the main reason to lose the markets in the region.

Stressing the need for creating extensive relations between private and non-governmental organizations with their foreign counterparts, Esfandiari said that a great number of organizations are expecting the government to act, while non-governmental organizations such as joint chambers of commerce should actively act in this regard.

He termed customer-centeredness and high-quality products as the main keys to successfully and consistently participate in the international markets, adding that "a comprehensive plan for export quality system" is under study with participation of public and private sectors.

He called cooperation with prominent companies as the entrance corridor for Iranian exporters to global markets.

The managing director of Export Affairs Department in Mines and Industries Ministry underlined the necessity to hold efficient exhibitions in the target countries, and said the Iraqi Kurds and the United States’ Joint Chamber of Commerce have held several fairs and meetings during a short period of time, while we haven’t run even a single exhibition in Iraq yet.

Regarding the government’s support extended to exporters for their participation in the exhibitions abroad, he said that Trade Development Organization has earmarked subsidies for the object depending on the type of the exhibition.
