Upon arrival, the Iranian president and his entourage were welcomed at Caracas international airport by the country’s officials.
President Ahmadinejad and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez will confer on expansion of mutual relations and will explore avenues to further broaden bilateral cooperation.
Ahmadinejad’s trip will take him to Venezuela, Nicaragua and Ecuador from January 12.
On Sunday, the Iranian president will leave Caracas for Managua in Nicaragua on the second leg of his trip.
During his stay in the country, President Ahmadinejad will confer with his Nicaraguan counterpart and the country’s high ranking officials on expansion of cooperation between the two countries.
On Sunday afternoon, the president will arrive in Quito, Ecuador on the last leg of his trip to Latin America to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ecuador’s new president which will also be attended by heads of state from around the world.
The Iranian president will wind up his visit and return home on Tuesday night.
IRNA.IRThe agreement was reached in the meeting between Iran’s Ambassador to Spain Seyed Davoud Salehi and the Chairman of Spain’s Royal Research Institute (Alcano) Gustav Suarez Perteyara in Madrid.
Interaction of research centers and increasing the knowledge about each other’s political, social and economic structure can solve current problems more easily, faster and more logically, Salehi added.
In this concern, the ambassador hailed existing "good cooperation" between Alcano Institute and Iran’s Foreign Ministry Bureau on International and Political Studies and called for more participation of both sides in the research projects.
Suarez, for his part, said the role and stance of Iran in the Middle East region and in Spain’s foreign policy necessitates expansion of academic cooperation between the two sides.
Alcano Institute started its work in the year 2001 and Spain’s crown prince assumes the honorary chairmanship of the institute.
